Ok I am home and doing ok
I am having probs with some side effects from a drug they gave me for pain Horror story follows.
NO pain releif when I came round from the op 4 hours later they decide to get a DR to prescribe pain releif non was written up for me. Tramadol was given ( I am allergic to all opiate based drugs!!!!) I had 4 doses of the stuff before I realised what was going on. Now I have side effects that can last up to 90 days. I am writing a letter of complaint and will make sure I have it in RED letters on my files NO OPIATE BASED DRUGS.
I was not happy and trust me neither is Colin.
Apart from that I am fine

Oh Paula. I'm glad you are doing ok. Hospitals eh?! Honestly you'd think that would be something they would check and double check as standard these days as so many people have allergies to certain drug types. Hope you have a speedy recovery Paula. Sending big ((((hugs))))

Hi Paula - you poor thing - I hope you get over it soon. Smile
I agree with Fe that they should have a system in place where it is double checked that you are not given drugs you have an allergy to. I have seen this happen to and when I pointed it out to the nurse she was happy with me but I insisted about the allergy for the patient and she had the doctor change it.

In my work (I know I am only a dental nurse) but if someone is pennicillin allergic it is written on the front page of their notes - also flagged in red and also in the paper copy of their medical history and in the medical history on their page on the computer too. Not only that but the dentist or I check if they have any allergies before drugs or prescription is given.

Sending you big {{{{{hugs}}}}}

Hi Paula, glad to see you back on the forum and so sorry to hear about the ordeal you have been through.

I used to work in general practice and there all patient allergies were clearly marked notes, however I am well aware that hospitals lose or ignore info sent from GPs, so although shocking I am not entirely surprised.

I do hope you get over the side effects soon. sunny flower
