I'm debating on buying a sizzix bigshot

I already have an original sizzix machine but managed to break it by being too hard on it I am thinking of buying the next one up which is the sizzix big shot. Has anyone got one, used one or heard anything about them, reviews etc.

Hi Dee I have used one and they are great, I ended up going down the cuttlebug route though

The only problem with the cuttlebug is i cant use my existing dies with it. I have quite a few sizzix dies that are compatible with the bighsot. So if you didnt buy the cuttlebug would you have bought the bigshot?

Dee I have the cuttlebug and I use my old sizzix dies with it, in fact I use all my dies, sizzix, sizzleta quickutz as well as the cuttlebug ones. I find it very versatile. I also have a MM slice as well which I love!!

Dee. I recently bought a Big Shot and adore it. I spent a long time deciding which one to go for and did a fair amount of research into the two best ones (apparently best), the Cuttlebug and the Big Shot.
After much looking and discussing with many people, including those on here was that the main difference was the space issue. The Cuttlebug takes up less surface area that the Big Shot. The other consideration for me was the colour, I adore the black and pink with sparkles - sorry to be so shallow but as space wasn't too much of an issue and I love black/pink together it made my decision. Also I found the Big Shot at £52.99 - cheaper than the cuttlebug!

If you have concerns about using your dies in a Cuttlebug, you could try emailing them.

I dont have any problem with the space either. I do however have the dilemma of.... do i buy manual at £59 or the electric (new version) at £99. Both include dies etc. I have done a lot of research too but as above... bigshot vs cuttlebug. I think I am going to go with the bigshot. So, chocolate fudge cake... I will be PMing you to find out all the great things to do with the bigshot lol. 'CFC'... electric or manual??

Just bought a xyron personal die cutting system too and love it they both do the job i need them to do especially for what I use them for which isnt that often

Its a hard choice peeps... Its a lot of cash to spend on something I wont like. I can feel myself swaying to the bigshot but which one. I think, electric... more can go wrong with it. I think I am going to go with the manual. I think they are both the same apart from how they run.

At the end of the day you'll just find you are drawn to one more than the other and that's the one to go for. I'm sure which ever one you end up chosing you will be pleased with it and have lots of fun.

Dee it's Making Memories Slice machine and it's a brilliant little electric die cutter, but you don't have dies you have design cards.

Dee I know what you mean about it being alot of money to spend on something you won't like, but what convinced me I had chosen the right one was when I saw Pete Hughes from Sizzix doing a demo at Colemans craft warehouse. It's the sort of place where you can sit down at their table and ask questions, I went with Pinkfluff and we asked alot of questions (she has one on her Christmas list!) He was fantastic and answered all our questions and loads more and showed us just how easy it is. Bad news is he is going to be at Colemans again at the end of October so I can see more dies being added to my collection!!

On the Q of manual or electric - I agree with you about more to go wrong, also there is something very satisfying about turning the handle, you're more 'hands on' - you feel you've made something then. lol

Morning Julie, I have been looking at the MM slice, it looks really good. There's a demo on youtube.

I have made my decision, I am going for the bigshot. Cfc, I am going to go for the manual, like you said.. it feels more hands on and as if you have made something. I have been going back to that one.. I would look at others but always go back to the Black and pink (which are 2 of my fave colours too) I must admit, I didnt think too much of it in the blue lol.

Well off to cutting edge crafts, you get free delivery with orders over, I think its £15. They have a starter pack on at the moment. The machine, the multipurpose platform, cutting pads and a couple of dies for £59.99. I checked ebay but the delivery is a killer.

Great decision Dee - I also didn't like the Big Shot in blue either!!

I also got mine from cutting edge crafts, I went for the machine on it's own and added my own choice of dies as I wasn't keen on the ones in the starter pack, but it came with platform, plates etc for £52.99. Also it came the next working day, so like you I ordered on a Friday and it came Monday morning.

Hope you enjoy it when it arrives, look forward to seeing your creations.

I got mine in a bundle from Cutting Edge Crafts too, they are so good on price. I think the electric one has brought the price of the manual one down a bit too, though I am tempted to get one as I have problems with my hands and the handle seems to stick and then come back and get me sometimes though this is nowhere near as bad as using the Wizard.

As for the Slice, I thought about it and dismissed it but now I see that they are selling the Tag Maker as The Slice Tag Maker! Now I bought a tag maker and was disappointed to find out they did a punching system for it which would cost over £100 to get the whole set, quite a bit over I think. The tag maker does come with little templates that you are supposed to draw round and cut out but I was never one for cutting out much, and I can't cut a straight line, so I am thinking maybe I should get a slice so I can use the Tag Maker!

As some of you know I also have the Robo so I should really get that to do the work, perhaps I will have a go!

And the robbo is? All these technical terms i'm intrigued

Hi Dee, the Craft Robo is a machine that hooks up to the computer and you send it a shape a bit like printing to a printer and feed in some thin card or paper and it cuts out. Very expensive, but they have got cheaper, and they don't cut thick enough card for me to be totally happy.

There are a few about, some use cartridges and don't need a computer, a bit like the Xyron that Deanne just bought, and there are very expensive ones that are probably fantastic.

The thing with the computer ones is you don't need to spend any more on cartridges and you theoretically don't need dies so save overall. You can also design your own shapes and words to cut out.

Ones with cartridges and "books" you just select the shape and the machine cuts it out.

sounds fab, is it a little like the Cricut? I think it works on the same principle. I would love one of those but way out of my price range. Now I know where to come if I am looking for something extra special that cant be purchased off ebay

No, its not arrived yet. It's now Thursday and no sign. I have been chomping at the bit to get in and about it but no joy... boohoo

On a good note tho, I have got my ribbon punch. I also bought some embossing stuff from Dobbies, no idea what to do with it but I got some lol

Hmmm ive tried my cuttlebug alphabet on it and the dies came out like bananas. They still work tho, how strange hehe

As long as they still work I guess that's ok.
